I am a 39 year old female. I’ve been eating disordered since I was 18 and I recently fought like hell through 40 weeks of treatment and I have finally arrived on the other side.

From October 2013 to August 2014 I was in an outpatient eating disorder recovery program. It was group-based with a focus on CBT. And it saved my life.

Reading about other people’s experiences through eating disorder recovery was also very beneficial for me – it still is. If my story can assist, provoke a thought, or provide a little push for anyone out there also recovering, then that’s a bonus!

Life for me now is the most enjoyable it’s ever been. I’m not 100% – I still hang on to some irrational thoughts and beliefs and the occasional safe behaviour but I am a billion miles from where I started. I continue to work towards overall wellness.

I have much to say about the past, present and future, and of life before, during and after an eating disorder. I just want a place to muse, to speak, to think out loud.

I’ve not had a voice for 20 years and now I can’t stop talking.

  1. I know exactly what you mean! My affliction lasted 21 years and when I first got out (of the culture) I talked some but I was pretty unstable for a time. Now I put all I can in looking outward . . .thinking about how I can help others with what I’ve learned. I have moved from talking to listening. I want to hear/read your stories!
